To have a good time.
Where else can you spend a couple of days immersed in the world of N Scale modelling uninterrupted by the demands of work, family, household chores, and the demand of others?
Yes, it is OK to be a little bit self-indulgent.
To mix with like-minded people.
Catch up with old friends and acquaintances, meet and make new friends with a whole new bunch of N Scalers.
To be exposed to new ideas.
See and talk about what is new and emerging in the N Scale world. Yes, you can do this online, but hearing first-hand what others have discovered or feel
about new developments in the hobby is invaluable.
To see what is available.
Not all hobby shops carry an extensive range of N Scale products, and you may live a long way from the nearest one. Traders attending the Convention will show what they have available and will be able to advise you of what is in the pipeline. Other Convention attendees will be sure to have information that they will be happy to pass on or point you in the right direction.
To buy that special something.
Retailers may just have something you need, and individuals may have something special or have secondhand models you won’t see in shops
or online.
To see what other modellers are doing.
Admire the exhibits in the Modelling Competition and check out the layouts on display. Challenge yourself to have a go at detailing a ready-to-run model. Vow to put together that kit in the bottom drawer with extra attention to detail, or modify a kit. Resolve to have a go at scratch building something. You never know you might be exhibiting your models at the next Convention.
To ask questions.
How was that model made, what materials were used and what resources were consulted? What inspired that layout, how was it constructed, was it
expensive and how long did it take? The Convention will be packed with people who can give you ideas, answers, and practical advice …… just ask!
To attend Clinics / Workshops.
Fellow modellers will tell you about their experiences, impart their expert knowledge and expose you to parts of the hobby you may never have
thought about. The how-to nature of clinics/workshops is invaluable and offers the chance to follow up on different aspects of the hobby by asking questions of the presenters.
Take part in the Convention Dinner.
Where you can socialise with other attendees and you might just be lucky enough to snag one of the prizes on offer.
To visit local railway experiences.
Visit local museums and restored prototypes. Visit local model train clubs. Hang out along the tracks to see, hear, and smell the one-to-one scale rail
action.
